and mountain ranges of Madonie and Monte Nebrodi rise up to 2,000 meters of altitude. Most of the area is a protected nature parc. The trails and tracks lead through a varied hilly landscape with a luxuriant rich flora and fauna, forests full of cork oak tress filled with the wonderful scent of Macchia. The best seasons for hiking are spring, when the Madonie is in full blossom and when you might even discover wild orchids or the late summer month.
Even on a hot summer's day you can enjoy beautiful routes on shady trails high up in the mountains while the heat in cities becomes almost unbearable. We organize our tours with our partner here in town, Kefa Reisen.

Andrea Ercolani is a Swiss and Italian national, born in Basel (CH) and a certified volcano guide. He moved to Sicily in 1988. The profession Guida Vulcanologica (volcano guide) is a certified profession.
A volcano guide is a mountain guide who is specialized on volcanos, this is a certified profession, the aspirants have to pass an exam before they receive a diploma and are then allowed to work professionally. Only professional and experienced volcano guides can read the signs of wind, weather and the volcano's current activity. It it not recommended to hike on a volcano without professional guidance!
Sicily with Europe's largest active volcano Mount Etna offers a wide range of possibilitiesion a terrain of 40 square kilometers to explore the character of a volcano. You will have the chance to learn about the volcano's formation, ts activity and the specific flora and fauna here. Andrea Ercolani speaks Italian, German, French and English and offers hikes and trekking-tours on Mount Etna and in the Aeolian Islands Vulcano and Stromboli. You can reach these islands very easily by airfoil ferry from Cefalù.
